The Plasencia Palace of Congress (Palacio de Congresos) will host, from October 25 to October 27, the International Congress of Domestic Tourism, which will address innovation and sustainability in tourism, identifying diverse opportunities and challenges of domestic tourism against depopulation of smaller urban center and rural areas, as well as its potential to create quality employment.

The Congress will also aim to promote the exchange of experiences between private companies, public administrators, local action groups, tourist offices, universities and other agents involved in setting national and international touristic policies. Plasencia, where this Congress is held, is a beautiful medieval city in the North of Extremadura, a region in Spain that is west of Madrid and borders with neighboring country, Portugal.

More than fifty first-rate speakers, from Spain, Europe and Latin America, will participate in this meeting, covering subjects such as affordable tourism and residential tourism; equestrian tourism, active tourism and nature tourism in which Extremadura is a pioneer due to the development of bird watching.  Importantly, cultural tourism and gastronomic tourism will also be featured along with astro-tourism, which attracts more and more visitors to Extremadura.

Technical visits to Monfragüe, Yuste and Cáceres

On October 27, participants will be able to meet at key spots for domestic tourism in Extremadura and gather first hand information on the experiences that have been developed at these sites. Technical visits to the Monfragüe National Park, the Yuste Monastery and the medieval city of Cáceres, a Unesco world heritage site in Extremadura.

Also, featured during the event are special exhibitions on Cultural and Nature touristic destinations, a tourist information center and a business networking area for information exchange and contacts among touristic professionals. All this complements an outstanding event at the International Congress of Domestic Tourism.

The Congress includes the attendance of the general public to special concerts and nocturnal visits to the city of Plasencia.

Registrations at the International Congress of Domestic Tourism in Plasencia can be made online through this link, with the possibility to attend one or both days. The daily fee is 15 Euros and is reduced to 10 Euros for the entire Congress, in the case of unemployed professionals and students.
