The 2025 edition of the Merida Festival will be held from the 4th of July to the 31st of August, this year. It features ten classical theater productions at one of the finest stages in the world. It will be held at Merida’s Roman Theater, where leading world performers, once again, offer unforgettable events. Among them are Ana Millán, María León, Isabel Ordaz, Eva Isanta, Alex O’Dogherty, Lluís Homar, Pepón Nieto, and José Vicente Moirón from Extremadura, in Spain, who are part of the lineup for this 71st edition.
The Siege of Numantia, Alexander and the Persian Eunuch, Iphigenia, Oedipus Rex, Cleopatra in Love: The Musical, Memoirs of Hadrian, The Trojan Women, The Brothers, and Jason and the Furies are some of the plays that can be enjoyed at the Roman Theater.
Through an agreement with the Italian Ostia Festival two plays will be shared at both Festivals, Iphigenia and Oedipus Rex. In other words, Iphigenia, an Extremadura production, can be seen here and in Rome, and Oedipus Rex, from the Fundazione Teatro di Roma, will be performed both Rome and in Extremadura.

Additional Venues of the Merida 2025 International Classical Theater Festival
The Roman Theatre is not the only scenario of the Merida 2025 International Classical Theatre Festival, a place that becomes a theater-city during these two summer months. There will be productions at the Teatro María Luisa, with international performances such as Antigone Reactor (Reactor Antígona), by “Marianela Boán Danza¨an ensemble from the Dominican Republic.
There will, also, be parallel activities in archetypal open spaces such as the Temple of Diana, the Pontezuelas Plaza or the Patio de los Naranjos. Because in addition to theater, the Merida Festival offers courses, exhibitions, workshops, storytelling, conferences, and multiple plans to enjoy with the whole family. Among the latter is the always spectacular parade that announces de festival, and this year it can be enjoyed in the Spanish cities of Merida, Medellin and Plasencia.
Mérida 2025 Festival will stage productions at the Roman theaters of Regina in Casas de Reina and Medellin. Presentations will be held at the Teatro de Bellas Artes in Madrid.
Concurrently, with Expo 2025 Osaka, the Merida festival will have representations in Japan. Also, performances will be held in the cities of Rome and Lisbon.
Tickets for the Mérida 2025 Theater Festival
Tickets can be purchased at the box offices located next to the main entrance of the Roman Theater, at the Plaza Margarita Xirgu, in the city of Merida (Spain). The box office is open on Monday through Sunday, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
